Selected areas of the bridge were scaffolded to allow access for blasting and painting. This method required a lot of skill and thought. Access was achieved using 450 mm alloy beams at the base of the scaffold to spread the load. We had to cantilever out 10 ft. on either side of the bridge to allow access to the underside of the bridge. We also erected a suspended scaffold 4 ft. down from the base of the bridge to allow safe and easy acess to the steel.
